2011 DESTINATION: Taiwan
TRAVEL TIPS: Taiwan is one of those destinations that many who travel to Asia may skip, but they end up regretting it after hearing how much fun their friends had there.
Taiwan is home to some of the best food in the region due to its history of being occupied by the Japanese and then later becoming the home-base for the democratic Chinese who lost the civil war in the 1940’s. Chinese foods from all regions could be found in addition to local Taiwanese street-style food. Beef noodle soup, succulent pork belly buns, soup dumplings, spicy hot pot and all variations of the shaved ice dessert can be found for a very reasonable price.
The people are extremely friendly and some of the best teas in the world are also from Taiwan. It is a very mountainous island and hiking trails can be found in the most unexpected places. A trip to Jade Mountain will leave you in awe because you could wake up from a tent to an ocean of clouds almost 13,000 feet above sea level.
Urban nightlife in the city of Taipei is also not to be missed. 24-hour “teashops” can be spotted throughout the city, while lounges, clubs and hugely popular karaoke bars open until sunrise. And if you get hungry after a night out, head to the Yong He Dou Jiang Da Wang on Fuxing Road for the most delicious egg pancakes, sticky rice balls and fresh soymilk you’ll ever taste.
TRAVEL GOALS: As a journalist, traveling to me is food for the soul. It gives me new knowledge, insight, and teaches me invaluable lessons about the world we live in.

2011 DESTINATION: Iceland
TRAVEL TIPS: Apart from a visit to the Blue Lagoon, Geysers and the top of the Hallgrimskirkja Church tower, make sure you spend some time browsing the quirky antique stores like Fríða Frænka in Reykjavik.
TRAVEL GOALS: To never lose that intoxicating feeling of exploring a new place for the first time, to get lost more and feel comfortable doing it, to gain more perspective with every trip I take, to never stop.

2011 DESTINATION: Colombia
TRAVEL TIPS: Colombia is one beautiful country, do not be afraid to try it for yourself, but maybe watch out for all the starchy goodness it has to offer! The food is amazing: arepas, empanadas, almojabanas, breads, cakes and sweets of all kinds, definitely try its very famous potato based Ajiaco soup. Also, Colombia has a multitude of fruits that would be labeled as “exotic” in North America and Europe, so they’re must eats as well! And a favorite drink is Sabajon, made out of Aguardiente.
It is a very mountainous country so be ready for the altitudes, and inclines. Getting around Bogotá, its capital, is quite cheap, taxis abound and the Transmilenio is a public bus that has its own lanes but traffic can be quite frustrating at rush hour. While in Bogotá the must sees are definitely Monserrate and the Gold Museum. Must buys in Colombia are: jewelry, gold and emeralds; wool, leather and of course its typically cute balcony and chiva souveniers. Colombia is budget friendly for the traveler and you will meet some of the nicest and most beautiful people while you’re there. It’s enchanting, you will definitely want to go back for seconds!
TRAVEL GOALS: I wanted to visit all 6 inhabitable continents by the age of 25 and I did it! Now, I want to make it to Antarctica within the next few years. I also am an avid passport stamp collector, so I visit as many countries as I can while I am on Earth to grow my collection!
